Ink & Imagination Writing Contest

Every great story begins with a spark. Each year, participants will be given three required elements and challenged to create an original story that weaves those elements together in a unique and meaningful way. Whether your story is a mystery, fantasy, science fiction adventure, romance, thriller, or something entirely your own, this competition is an opportunity to let your creativity shine. You will have 14 days to write your story.

What begins as a team trip quickly turns into something far stranger when Talia finds herself inside a mysterious small-town library that seems impossible to escape.
After discovering an emerald-covered book and a strange yellowed note, Talia begins to realize that the library may be connected to a repeating cycle she has lived through before. As the power goes out, the people around her begin acting strangely, and words appear and change on the page in real time, Talia must figure out what the book wants from her and whether she can finally break the loop.
The Emerald Cover is a suspenseful supernatural story about friendship, mystery, and the unsettling possibility that the story you are reading may already know how yours ends.
De'Niya Coffman is a young writer and participant in The Resilience Foundation’s Ink & Imagination Writing Contest. Through The Emerald Cover, De'Niya combines mystery, suspense, friendship, and supernatural storytelling to create a world where an ordinary trip can suddenly become anything but ordinary.

Student Spotlight
My name is Ja'Veya Imani, and I am a proud graduate of the Cleveland School of Science and Medicine at John Hay High School. This fall, I will be attending Albany State University, where I plan to major in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. I chose this career because I have always wanted to work in healthcare and make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Becoming a sonographer allows me to combine my passion for helping others with my interest in medicine and technology.
Throughout high school, I was a Varsity cheerleader and learned the importance of teamwork, dedication, and perseverance. One of my biggest challenges was transferring schools during my senior year, but I embraced the change, built new friendships, and continued to work hard toward my goals. That experience taught me resilience and gave me confidence that I can overcome obstacles and succeed in new environments.
As I begin this next chapter, I am excited to grow academically, personally, and professionally. I am incredibly thankful for my family, friends, teachers, and everyone who has supported me along the way. I can’t wait to see what the future holds, and I’m proud to represent the next generation of Albany State University Rams!
Scholarship Spotlight
The QuestBridge National College Match is officially open.
High-achieving high school seniors from low-income backgrounds can apply for admission and a full four-year scholarship to one of 55 top colleges across the country.
Students who Match receive a scholarship package with no loans and no parental contribution. QuestBridge says these scholarships can be worth more than $360,000.
📅 Application deadline: October 1, 2026
Students should start NOW because the application requires two teacher recommendations, a counselor School Report, transcripts, financial information, and written responses.
QuestBridge typically looks for students who have performed exceptionally well academically while navigating financial challenges. There is no absolute GPA, test-score, or income cutoff, and SAT/ACT scores are not required to submit the application.
If you know a senior who works hard, has big goals, and may think a highly selective college is financially out of reach, send them this opportunity.
